You can also integrate some plants that produce fruits favored by birds along the borders of your garden. But of course you have to share! Here are a few:
|Common name||Latin name|
|Canada serviceberry||(Amelanchier canadensis)*|
|Black chokeberry||(Aronia melanocarpa)*|
|Early lowbush blueberry||(Vaccinium angustifolium)*|
|Wild strawberry||(Fragaria virginiana)*|
|Raspberry and Blackberry||(Rubus spp.)|
|Currant and Black currant||(Ribes spp.)|
|Wild raisin||(Viburnum nudum var. cassinoides)*|
* Native species
Birds will also be attracted by seeds from these: coreopsis, cosmos, coneflowers, sunflower, heliopsis, black-eyed Susan, grasses, etc. Blooms must not be cut off after the plants flower.
To attract hummingbirds, some things you can add are columbine, beebalm, sage and weigela.
The plants suggested here are just a few of the many possibilities. It’s just up to you to conduct your own tests – and to observe the results.
