Buying a potted flowering plant for yourself or as a gift

A potted flowering plant, whether it is a traditional poinsettia, a kalanchoe, a cyclamen, a gerbera or an azalea, makes a great gift during the holiday season.

At the store:

  • Make sure that the potting soil is still moist.
  • Check the foliage to make sure that it is a healthy colour. Check under the leaves for any insect pests.
  • Choose a plant that is just starting to bloom, for lasting enjoyment. Make sure that the plant is well wrapped and take it home promptly in a warm vehicle.

Unwrap it as soon as you get home if you plan to keep it a few days before offering it as a gift.
