Completed and major future projects

Montréal Space for Life is the largest natural science museum complex in Canada. Montréal Space for Life is undertaking an ambitious investment plan that will help position Montréal as the flagship of a vast global movement in support of biodiversity, aiming to invent new ways of living and reconnect humankind with nature.

The Université de Montréal Biodiversity Centre at the Botanical Garden opened in March 2011 and the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium in April 2013. These two world-class institutions are revolutionizing how things are done in their respective fields.

The Insectarium Metamorphosis, the Biodôme Migration and two other major Space for Life projects are a legacy for Montrealers, for the planet and for future generations. These two projects – characterized by their uniqueness, both in terms of architecture and design and the memorable and distinctive experiences they offer visitors – will let Space for Life truly play its role by inviting citizens to reconnect with nature and invent new ways of living. Reflecting a multidisciplinary vision wherein the architectural gesture emerges from a global creative approach, a bold architectural design will create living spaces that are permeable, ecological and evolving, while meeting the highest green building standards.

Throught the Pathway to Phytotechnologies seven stations, visitors will learn about the fabulous powers of plants and their revolutionary ecological multitasking. Through demonstrations, visitor activities and models, they’ll see phytotechnologies in action and make connections with their own lives.

The Grande Place at the Montréal Space for Life will link all four institutions. It will offer visitors a new way of moving around, coming together, enjoying the spaces and building and experiencing everyday life. A constantly changing agora, brought to life by its users, will come to life in every season. With a fluid, intuitive and well-designed path, the Grande Place and the entire experience will symbolize the bonds between humankind and nature.
