Description

Butterflies

This species can also be found in the Moths - Active by night section under the theme A time for everyone/Nighttime, specimen number 12 (country of origin: Canada), as well as in the Temperate habitats - Quebec mural display under the theme We live everywhere/Temperate habitats, specimen number 38 (country of origin: Canada).

Curator's pick

This moth has lackluster inner wings and more colourful outer wings. During the daytime, it rests on tree trunks, where it is perfectly camouflaged by the bark. When enemies approach, it opens its wings to fly, exposing the colour on its outer wings. The moth takes advantage of the element of surprise to escape.
