Immerse yourself in a universe of virtual fireflies
From June 20 to August 30, turn yourself into Bearers of Light at the Insectarium, and learn all about fireflies’ luminous language thanks to a new interactive multimedia installation.
Talk like a firefly
Inspired by their ability to produce light, Bearers of Light invites you to enjoy a unique visual and sound experience, almost as though you were in the countryside on a lovely summer evening, surrounded by virtual fireflies. Using two touch interfaces, on your own or as part of a group, make them appear and soar in a spectacular glittering ballet... Everything is possible with this fun activity combining art and poetry!
Learn about bioluminescence
The installation’s designers, Mathieu Le Sourd and Étienne Paquette, worked with the Insectarium team, using phosphorescence to reproduce fireflies’ bioluminescence. They turned industrial materials into an environment filled with luminous flowers evoking the luminescence that is an indispensable part of fireflies’ language. As you move along, the foliage becomes denser, and as you manipulate the laser beams, you will create your own surprising sound and light show. Elsewhere in the Insectarium, a nature interpreter rounds out the experience by explaining bioluminescence, a chemical reaction.
