At its annual convention, held in Virginia in May, the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Librairies (CBHL) presented the Charles Robert Long Award of Extraordinary Merit to Céline Arseneault, a botanist and the librarian in charge of the acclaimed Jardin botanique de Montréal Library. This distinction, the highest honour in the world of horticultural and botanical libraries, recognizes outstanding service, research and information services in this specialized field.

Ms. Arseneault holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in library science from the University de Montréal school of library and information science. She is the first Canadian to receive this award, which has previously always gone to Americans. She was recognized by her peers for her deep commitment to and passion for the CBHL, as well as for advancing the Jardin botanique de Montréal Library into an essential hub of activity, learning and documentation
