Ruddy turnstone

This species reproduces in Alaska, in north-eastern Canada, as far as Greenland. It does not reproduce in Quebec. It nests on sloping, rocky plateaus and on low islands. It can be found on bushy or bare, dry and humid terrain. The nest is a shallow depression in the ground sometimes lined with mosses, grass or leaves. Both parents incubate the eggs alternately for 21-24 days. Clutch size is four. The eggs are grayish-green with brown stripes and spots.

The young leave the nest less than a day after hatching and can fly within 24-26 days. The male stays with the young for another two weeks approximately.
