Allegheny blackberry

This very large plant grows 60 to 240 cm tall. Its upright, glandular, downy stems are covered with stiff, almost straight thorns. The canes or young shoots that grow each year from this perennial plant bear stiff, widely spaced, broad-based thorns. The leaves on the canes usually have 5 leaflets. Early in the season, they are covered in dense hairs above and are velvety beneath. The inflorescence is a long cluster of 14 to 18 flowers. The black fruit is oblong-globular or globular.
