Creeping wintergreen, Eastern teaberry

This plant has underground rhizomatous stems that produce aerial shoots from 3 to 15 cm long. It has a limited number of leaves, growing at the tip of the stem. They are thick, oval, slightly toothed and shiny, dark green. The white flowers are solitary and grow in the leaf axils. The fruit is berry-like, almost globular, scarlet and aromatic.
