Labrador tea

The fresh or dried leaves, flowers and flower buds are used to make a tea-like infusion. Indigenous peoples smoked the leaves of Labrador tea as a tobacco substitute. Some women took a decoction made from the plant three times a day when it neared time for them to give birth. The plant contains tannins, which would explain why it was used as a healing remedy by the Cree, who chewed the leaves before applying them to wounds.
