New England aster

The stem of this plant grows 50 to 150 cm tall and is covered in long, stiff hairs. It bears many lance-shaped leaves. They are stalkless and clasp the stem. The flowers are clustered in sprays of mauve flower heads 3 to 5 cm in diameter. The small leaves around the flowers are glandular and hairy.
