Swiss cheese plant

The sturdy stem of this plant bears aerial roots that it uses to cling to a support. The leaves are broad, oval and often asymmetrical at the base. They have a long stalk surrounded by a sheath. The leaves end in a point and have a variable number of different sizes of oval holes that are characteristic of this genus. The flowers do not have any petals and are grouped in a spike 8 to 14 cm long, surrounded by a special white leaf called a spathe. The flowers bear both sexes at once.
