Thorough-wort

This plant is one of the most popular folk medicines in the United States. Its leaves were made into a tea used to induce sweating during fevers, colds and flu. It was also used to treat malaria, rheumatism and muscular pain. It was mistakenly thought to act as an antidote to water hemlock poison. In large doses, the plant may be emetic and laxative.
