Celebrating visual art and entomophilia at Frédéric-Back Park

English

In summer 2023, three outdoor artworks were exhibited at Frédéric-Back Park, each inspired by the incredible diversity of the insect world. These pieces highlighted the ecological roles of insects while drawing from the organic character of the site itself.

Bivouac, by Collectif Escargo, invited visitors on a journey at another scale, revealing the complexity and spectacular beauty of butterfly wings.

À l’antenne [Antennae On], by Architecturama, was inspired by the black longhorn beetle—whose antennae are longer than its body—and the white admiral butterfly, which also happens to be Quebec’s official insect.

Hortus formica, by Frédéric Saia, opened a window into the invisible world of the ant colony, evoking the vital role ants play in their environment.

These three short documentaries capture the story behind each project:

Frédéric-Back Park: A landmark for entomophilia

With its history, its mission, and the inspiring diversity of its landscapes, Frédéric-Back Park was the perfect setting for this artistic event. The project was carried out in collaboration with the teams at the park and at TOHU.
