Description of the activity

Students read a text, draw an animal from a photo and make a crossword. This will all help them prepare for the research they will be doing on the various animals in the Naturalia discovery room.

Equipment needed by the student

  • Copies of activity sheets
  • Crayons

Equipment necessary for the teacher

  • Printer

Preparation

Make enough copies of activity sheets, one for each child.

Refresher course

  • Ask students to explain the features of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates and give an example for each.
    Mammals: Are covered with hair and nurse their young.
    Birds: Are covered with feathers and lay eggs.
    Reptiles: Are covered with scales and lay their eggs on the ground.
    Amphibians: Live on dry land and in water, have moist skin with no scales and lay their eggs in the water or on moist ground.
    Fish: Live and lay their eggs in the water; are generally covered with scales, and breathe with gills.
    Invertebrates: Have no backbone, live in all habitats and vary in size.
  • Find various objects and present them to the class. Ask the students to describe, measure, draw or weigh them, etc.
