Students decode a message sent by Mico, a young Amazonian girl. There is a corrected version and questions to verify their understanding of the message, for teachers.

Equipment needed by the student

  • Copies of activity sheets
  • Crayons

Equipment necessary for the teacher

  • Printer

Preparation

Make enough copies of activity sheets, one for each child.

Refresher course

  • Ask students to compare their lifestyles with those of children in an Amazonian tribe. What differences and similarities do they see?
  • Ask students to read one of the Amazonian legends in the Life in My Tribe activity to set the mood.
  • See if they can remember a few words from the Arawete language. They may come in handy when you visit the Biodôme.
