Origin and description

A perennial native to Quebec. Its stem branches out in the upper part and bears numerous narrow leaves resembling those of grasses.

Its flowers form flat-topped inflorescences that emerge at the tips of the stems.

Height: 60 to 120 cm
Width: 30 to 60 cm
Blooming: yellow, July to September
Wildlife benefits: Attracts pollinators, butterflies, and certain birds

Growing conditions

Exposure: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade
Soil type: Moist to dry
Remarks: A robust rhizomatous plant that can form colonies and become invasive. It is not well suited for small gardens. It also propagates by seed.

Its leaves and roots contain allelopathic compounds that may inhibit the germination and growth of nearby plants.
