Origin and description

This shrub is native to North Africa, Western Asia and Southern Europe, among other regions. It can be brought indoors in winter. Its leaves have a camphor scent and a spicy flavor. Its flowers are milder tasting. They attract bees, which produce delicious honey.

Growing conditions

Exposure: Full sun, partial shade.
Slow growing.

Sow seed indoors in March-April.
Stem cuttings in fall or spring.

Use

Culinary use: The leaves are used to flavour meats, poultry, sauces, soups and marinades. The flowers can be candied or added fresh to food.
