The Goliath bird-eating spider is the largest tarantula in the world. A large female can measure 30 cm from leg to leg and weigh 130 grams! This tarantula intimidates its enemies by making a stridulating sound and defends itself with its venom and urticating hairs. Its record of longevity (in captivity) is 28 years!
