Insects are a critical link in the food chain. They are the main source of food for several species of fish, amphibians, birds and small mammals.

Insects are eaten widely as both larvae and adults. For example, mayfly larvae are eaten by aquatic insects and fish. Once they reach adulthood, mayflies are a food source for dragonflies, birds and other insect-eating animals.
