In 2023, during his residency at the Insectarium, artist Leon Louder set out to highlight the vibrant, fragmented and magnetic energy of insects—seeking to spark an emotional connection with them.

“The song of insects is a perfect kind of music—not just for its delicate textures, but for its mix of regularity and asymmetry: predictable yet constantly evolving.”
— Leon Louder

The resulting musical work, Entomophonie [Entomophonia] is composed entirely of insect sounds. It reveals the strange and mesmerizing melodies and rhythms hidden in buzzing, chirping, stridulation, and other insect-generated sounds.

Entomophonie at MUTEK and on Tour in Montreal

In August 2023, Leon Louder performed Entomophonie [Entomophonia] as a 45-minute outdoor set at the MUTEK festival. Supported by the CAM en tournée program, he continues a Montreal tour through 2025 with an enhanced, quadraphonic version of the piece.

You can listen to the Entomophonie album or explore the podcast of the same name, which dives into Leon Louder’s captivating creative process.
