The Association of Energy Engineers has saluted the Biodôme for its heat recovery network and open loop geothermal system, one of Canada’s largest. The Biodôme can now meet all its own heating and cooling needs. In fact, the energy efficiency of the new facilities even exceeds the initial target by more than 33%. The international Energy Project of the Year award was presented to Biodôme representatives at the Association’s World Energy Engineering Congress, held in Orlando from September 30 to October 2. This very prestigious award recognizes the project’s remarkably innovative approach and excellent results.

Focus on sustainable development

Energy efficiency is key to maintaining the health and quality of life of the animals and plants at the Biodôme. By taking concrete action to avoid wasting energy by introducing visionary energy efficiency programs, the Biodôme is leading the way in combatting global warming and reducing greenhouse gases. Montréal Space for Life has won numerous other distinctions saluting its bold environmental protection initiatives (Sustainable Communities Award, Énergia award, honourable mentions for the Innovation and Sustainable Development Awards).
