- Biosphère
12 young artists from the francophonie will be featured at an exhibition at the Biosphère this summer
Following last fall’s call for projects, the Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec and the Biosphère/Espace pour la vie, in collaboration with GSI Musique, the Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation and the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques, are delighted to announce the names of the winners and to support the participation of 12 young visual artists from the Francophonie in the exhibition MIGRATIONS, opening in early June at the Biosphère. The exhibition is being presented as part of the centenary celebrations to mark Jean Paul Riopelle’s birth.
Each of the 12 winning artists, aged between 18 and 35, will present two graphic works on the theme of the migratory movements of humans, animals or plants, their interdependence and fragile balance, and how they are being influenced by climate change.

The migration theme
The theme of migratory movement echoes Riopelle’s well-known fascination with wild geese—a supreme migratory symbol. With its unique location on Île Sainte-Hélène, the Biosphère is positioned on the migration corridor of many bird species, including the Canada goose. Every spring and fall, the island and museum’s surrounding area come alive with the sounds of thousands of birds.
