Espace pour la vie warmly congratulates Julia Mlynarek and Marjolaine Giroux, both honored at the joint annual meeting of the Entomological Society of Canada and the Société d’entomologie du Québec, which was held from October 20 to 23.

Julia Mlynarek, entomologist at the Insectarium and chairwoman of the board of directors of the Société d’entomologie du Québec, received the C. Gordon Hewitt Award from the Entomological Society of Canada. This prestigious prize recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of entomology in Canada. Impassioned by biodiversity and the conservation of insects in diverse environments, Julia specializes in the evolutionary ecology of interactions between species: parasitism and herbivory, for example. She uses such innovative approaches as environmental DNA from insect droppings for a better understanding of food chains and pollination networks.

Marjolaine Giroux, entomological information officer at the Insectarium from 1989 to 2024, was decorated with the Léon-Provancher medal from the Société d’entomologie du Québec. That distinction was presented to her for her great entomological proficiencies and her remarkable professional accomplishments. Marjolaine, the holder of a doctorate in entomology, has notably put her expertise at the service of the public to help people better coexist with insects.
