Montréal, November 30, 2015 -

Montréal, November 30, 2015 – Come celebrate the magic of the holidays with your family, at Montréal Space for Life. The Botanical Garden will appeal to your sweet tooth with its A Sweet Christmas exhibition. The new puppet show at the Biodôme, Capy’s Big Day, is sure to have everyone bursting with laughter. At the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, the Dark Universe/aurōrae double feature will transport you from the dark side of the Universe to the shimmering curtains of the Northern Lights. And you can explore the Insectarium in a whole new way, with the new free Montréal Space for Life app.

A delicious Sweet Christmas – December 11, 2015 to January 3, 2016
With A Sweet Christmas, you can almost taste the beauty and tranquility in a festive setting full of horticultural creations on a candy theme. It’s the perfect way to briefly escape the holiday rush.

In the Main Exhibition Greenhouse, transformed into a huge candy shop, the second edition of the A Sweet Christmas exhibition will feature some fifty giant candy canes and lollipops, about twenty huge candy floss cones and lots of outsize cupcakes. Stroll along the path past some 1,300 specimens selected specially for the holidays, and learn all about confectionery plants. Some are sugary, some tangy and some bursting with flavour – they’re sure to bring back some “sweet” memories, no matter how old you are. Around the spectacular Christmas tree made out of poinsettias, one of our experts will explain and offer tastes of confectionery plants, while telling you about the gourmet treats enjoyed in the days of certain famous historical figures. And why not drop in and enjoy a musical interlude during the choir performances on December 12, 13, 19 and 20?

Come on a Tropical Adventure – December 19, 2015 to February 7, 2016
Children ages 3 to 8 will be delighted with Capy’s Big Day, an entertaining puppet show featuring new animals from the Tropical Rainforest. Smiles and laughter guaranteed! You can also say hello to Commander Macaw, the Tropical Adventure mascot. At the “Beaks and Bandaids” rescue centre, kids can dress up and have fun learning to feed and care for the animals, with the help of our nature interpreters

On December 26, it’s Christmas for the animals! You can watch them using their wits to “unwrap” their presents and get at their favourite treats.

Dark Universe/aurōrae double feature
During the holiday season, the immersive shows projected on the 360° screen at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium combine science with wonder and poetry. The all new aurōrae show, produced by Montréal Space for Life and co-directed by filmmaker Philippe Baylaucq and Sébastien Gauthier, a member of the Montréal Space for Life team, is an exceptional immersive experience. Set to the music of DJ Champion, superb images of the Northern Lights illuminate the dome of the Milky Way Theatre while a nature interpreter comments on and explains this fascinating luminous phenomenon. Produced by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, Dark Universe leads you on a voyage of exploration through the visible and invisible cosmos. The voice of renowned astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson guides audiences on this exceptional journey to the edges of the Universe.

Kids’ favourite museum offers live presentations to thrill the whole family, and close-up contacts with insects. Along with our enthusiastic nature interpreters, visit Insects in Winter and learn about the ingenious tricks they use to survive the winter and reappear in spring. And don’t miss Super Insects on Tour. The Insectarium’s superheroes are eager to show you all their superpowers. If you’d like to reach out and touch them, you can! You can also take the opportunity to explore the Insectarium in a different way, with the all-new Montréal Space for Life app.
