Montréal Space for Life Welcomes a Record Numbers of Visitors to the Jardin botanique and Insectarium!

Montréal, November 15, 2017 -

September and October are always very busy months at the Jardin botanique, thanks to the Gardens of Light and the Great Pumpkin Ball. This year, though, we even beat last year’s record attendance! Between September 8 and October 31, Montréal Space for Life welcomed 323,300 visitors to the Jardin botanique and the Insectarium, up by 21% over last year’s daily average and by 34% over the daily average in 2015.

Our visitors not only came in impressive numbers, but were also exceptionally satisfied. According to a survey by BIP (Bureau d’intervieweurs professionnels), 97% of visitors said they were very satisfied or quite satisfied with their overall experience, with 74% very satisfied. When asked whether they would recommend Gardens of Light to a family member or friend, 98% said definitely or probably, with 84% in the first category. Lastly, when asked whether they planned to come back and visit Gardens of Light again next year, 87% said definitely or probably, with 54% saying “definitely.”

Of course, Montréal’s 375th anniversary celebrations and the warm and sunny weather this fall certainly contributed to the popularity of these events, which have now become an autumn tradition for Montrealers. But the reopening of the Chinese Garden in 2017, after three years of restoration work, also helped draw visitors to admire the splendid pavilions and magnificent lanterns – including the Shen Lung dragon, the largest lantern designed and exhibited on Dream Lake to date. The addition of the First Nations Garden to the Gardens of Light route was also an opportunity for visitors to extend a delightful twilight stroll.

When it came time to celebrate Halloween and squash season, The Great Pumpkin Ball, the Little Monsters Courtyard and the new storytelling sessions at the Jardin botanique and the Insectarium once again proved very popular with families.
