Are you daring, creative, a food lover, looking for relaxation? Good news! We have what you’re seeking at Montréal Space for Life this summer, as we celebrate nature in every form. You’re bound to be inspired by the monumental artwork of internationally renowned land artist Patrick Dougherty, as he creates pieces from willow branches as visitors watch in the Arboretum. For a pleasant challenge for your taste buds, check out the all-new Insect Tastings snack bar at the Insectarium. Then settle yourself comfortably under the crabapple trees in the Botanical Garden and enjoy listening to one of the intimate concerts as The Arts Put on a Show at the Garden.
Nature that inspires us
Land artist Patrick Dougherty’s gigantic woven willow branch sculptures are true odes to nature, inviting audiences to discover trees from an artistic and creative angle. Inspired by the incomparable beauties of the Arboretum, the artist will be fashioning two signature pieces “live” and, for the first time in his career, laying the groundwork for a third, collective piece that visitors ages 10 and up can help to create over the summer, from June 24 to September 4. There’s something for younger visitors, too: they can find out how to weave willow branches and learn about the properties of this fascinating plant and how it can be used to decontaminate soil. It’s sure to be a memorable natural experience!
The artist will be on hand and at work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

- July 3 to 21 (except July 15 and 16)
Nature that feeds us
Have you ever heard of entomophagy? The word means “eating insects,” a very popular practice in many countries around the globe, although it has been slow to catch on here. Montréal Space for Life is taking the bold step of opening an all-new Insect Tastings snack bar at the Insectarium, from June 15 to September 4. Chef Rafaël Martinez has concocted a menu worthy of Montréal’s best food trucks! Come enjoy burgers with lettuce, cheese, lentils and cricket flour, or tacos with silkworms, other samples and even soft ice cream with termite crunchies and chocolate. De-li-cious, and affordable, too ($3 to $8)! The Insectarium’s nature interpreters will be on hand to advise and encourage everyone. You can also have fun playing the great Insect Tastings game.
Nature that heals us
It’s been proven that immersing yourself in a natural setting is a great way to relax. It just feels… natural. So it’s no surprise that The Arts Put on a Show at the Garden concerts, beneath the Botanical Garden’s crabapple trees, have been such a hit with music lovers over the past few years. Artists love this unique performance space, too, as it lets them get closer to nature and to their audiences and frees them from the constraints of normal stages. Pure delight for your eyes and ears!
