The Biodôme and the Jardin botanique
 are now open every day. The Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan remains closed.

Note that purchasing fixed-time tickets online is highly recommended.

Overview of the situation:

In accordance with guidelines issued by the Direction nationale de la santé publique, the Montréal Space for Life museums have the green light to open on February 8.

Until your next visit, we invite you to take a loot at our online content.

Jardin botanique

  • Self-guided visits of the greenhouses with a fixed-time ticket, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.
  • Free access to the outdoor gardens (no fixed-time ticket), from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.

Self-guided visit of the ecosystems with a fixed-time ticket, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.

Health measures in place

We’ve put a number of health measures in place so that all our spaces comply rigorously with the protocol established by the public health department.

To help you properly prepare your visit in the current context, we ask you to take note of the following information.


In our concern to ensure a pleasant and safe visit for all, Space for Life appeals to everyone’s sense of civic responsibility and asks you not to visit the premises if:

  • you have symptoms such as cough, fever, runny nose (unknown reason)
  • you have difficulty breathing
  • you’ve been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

On site

  • You will have to respect a distance of 2 meters from other people.
  • The wearing of a mask is mandatory indoors.

Tips for visiting the Jardin botanique's outdoor gardens

  • Breathing in some fresh air at the Jardin botanique de Montréal is like going to a museum!
  • Under the snow lie precious collections of plants and shrubs that should not be trampled on if you wish to admire them next summer. For these reasons, you are prohibited from :
    • Snowshoeing or sliding;
    • Touching plants or climbing trees;
    • Walking a pet.
  • Help us preserve this jewel by staying on the walking trails, cross-country ski trails or the paved path (for jogging).

If the snow has not been removed, it is not a walking trail!

  1. Stay on the walking trails.
  2. Snowshoeing is prohibited.
  3. Sliding is prohibited. The use of sleds is only allowed on the main trail.
  4. Climbing on rocks, works of art and buildings is prohibited.
  5. Tree climbing is prohibited.
  6. Pets are not welcomed at the Jardin botanique.
  7. Biking is prohibited.
  8. Do not venture out on the lakes.

What is your reception capacity?
Due to current health regulations, our reception capacity is reduced to 25 people per half hour for each institution. However, this rule does not apply to the Jardin botanique's outdoor gardens. The Insectarium is closed for renovations (reopening scheduled later in 2021).

Do I have to book my ticket online to access the museums?
Yes, the purchase of fixed-time tickets is highly recommended.

I am a member of a Montréal Space for Life museum friend society, do I need to book my ticket online to access the museums?
Members of friend societies can access the museums without a reservation, depending on availability.

I have a valid Accès Montréal card, do I have to book my ticket online to access the museums?
Holders of a valid Accès Montréal card can access the museums without a reservation, depending on availability.

Is wearing a face mask mandatory for visitors?
Wearing a face mask is mandatory indoors for people aged 10 and over. We also ask visitors to respect the health guidelines in place and call upon their responsible citizenship by asking them not to visit our premises if they have symptoms such as cough or fever or if they are having difficulty breathing.

Is it possible to make a group reservation?
Due to a daily reception capacity limited to 25 people per half hour, group bookings (school or other) are suspended until further notice.

Will you have any special spring break programming?
Exceptionally this year, there will be no special programming for spring break. However, guides will be stationed at the Biodôme to answer visitors' questions.

Our website is also full of activities to do at home to satisfy all ages and tastes during spring break.

Will the shops and restaurants / snack bars be open?
All museums' shops will be open. Restaurants remain closed.

Is the Jardin botanique's library open?
Yes, the Jardin botanique’s library will be open as of February 11.

Please consult the library's website for the current temporary schedule and access conditions.

Note that the slide library and on-site access to the archives remain closed but we respond to requests for specific or urgent needs via the form available on the website.

Jardin botanique’s outdoor gardens

Do I have to book my ticket online to access the Jardin botanique’s outdoor gardens?
No, access to the outdoor gardens is free. You don't need a ticket. Please respect the measures in place.

I have an Early Bird card for the Jardin botanique, can I now enter the site in the morning?
Access to the Jardin botanique's outdoor trails will be free for everyone starting at 7:30 a.m. every day. Holders of the Early Bird card will be able to have their subscription extended to enjoy access starting at 6:30 in the morning as soon as the health situation reverts to normal.

What activities can I carry out on the Jardin botanique's outdoor site?
Walking, bird watching and cross-country skiing if snow cover allows. Please stay on the open pathways. Snowshoeing is prohibited everywhere in the Jardin botanique.
