Oasis pour les monarques

Témoignage

This is the 3rd year since we've created a garden to help save/protect bees and butterflies.
Our garden consists of cosmos, different varieties of buddleias, milkweeds, dianthus, asters, different kinds of cone flowers, marigolds, sedums, verbenas, veronicas candles, lavender, wild flowers etc.
We also have a large section of raspberries, black raspberries, rhubarb, a cherry tree and some strawberries besides some vegetables we panted also.
We always attract many bumble/honey bees besides the many variety of other bees/wasps/flies/beetles/ladybugs, etc. This year was are best year yet for monarchs and other butterflies visiting our garden. We counted 42 days that we saw a monarch or more in our garden giving us a total of 63 monarchs some days having 4 monarchs at a time, even thou I know some of them must be the same monarch that just returns to my garden after they hide/sleep in the trees in my yard when the sun goes down. The first monarch we saw was on the 11th of July and the last one was seen was on the 25th of September. Besides the monarchs we were able to observe 5 swallowtails including the giant swallowtail, 6 red admirals, 3 Milberts tortoiseshell, 1 painted lady, many clouded sulphurs, tons of cabbage whites, little blue butterflies, 3 hummingbird clearwing/sphinx moths (2 were black and yellow and other black and orange). Besides the brown birds and the squirrels we had some yellow warblers and yellow finches that would visit our garden often.
