Beach groundsel

Beach groundsel is fairly common in its habitat. It lines both shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In some regions, including the Mingan Islands, another plant is encountered that seems to be a mutation of this species. The plant is fertile and resembles beach groundsel, but is somewhat reddish and the rays on its flowerheads are very short. It is called Senecio pseudoarnica f. roolandii and grows in large colonies, without any transition, in S. pseudoarnica zones.
