Mission of the Biodôme

Families and people with disabilities or specific needs have access to a range of services during their visit to the Biodôme. Explore the services available, from wheelchair loans to changing rooms and lockers, along with other solutions designed to make your visit easier.

Accessibility and adapted services

The Biodôme’s ecosystems, as well as its mezzanine, gift shop, and food counter, are fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.

Entry is facilitated by automatic doors with push-button activation, and an elevator provides access to the mezzanine overlooking the Tropical Rainforest and Gulf of St. Lawrence ecosystems.

Admission to the Biodôme is free for the companion of a visitor with a disability.

Pre-visit planning guide and sensory kit

A pre-visit planning guide for the Biodôme, along with a sensory kit, was developed in collaboration with Giant Steps for autistic visitors. The guide includes a communication board, a sensory map, and photos to help make your visit easier.

A sensory kit for autistic visitors is available at the reception desk. It includes five calming items designed to enhance the visit experience. The kit may also be helpful for anyone experiencing sensory overload.

Wheelchair loans

The Biodôme offers wheelchairs for visitors upon request at the reception desk. Since the number of wheelchairs is limited, availability cannot be guaranteed.

A piece of identification is required for the loan.

Parking and paratransit

  • Outdoor parking: Five paid accessible parking spaces are available at 3000 Viau Street (P6). Please note that reaching the Biodôme requires a short walk along a path that includes a brief section with a moderate slope.
  • Indoor parking: 18 paid accessible parking spaces (12 on level 1 and 6 on level 2) are available at 3200 Viau Street (P5), where a paratransit drop-off area is also located.

The Biodôme de Montréal has been certified as completely accessible by Kéroul, which assesses the accessibility of tourist and cultural sites across Québec.

Dining areas and gift shop

Called Espace Végo, the Biodôme cafeteria is located at the end of the visitor route. It serves vegetarian sandwiches, salads, and hot meals. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll also find cookies and delicious desserts made on site. You can also enjoy a great cup of coffee.

The Biodôme’s gift shop offers a variety of educational items for all ages, highlighting the biodiversity, wildlife, and plant life of the Americas—as well as the city of Montréal, Quebec, and Canada.

Located within the white wall that surrounds the ecosystems, the shop is near the end of the museum pathway.

Services for families

Stroller loans

You can borrow a stroller for the duration of your visit by speaking with staff at the ticket counter. A piece of ID is required. As the number of strollers is limited, availability cannot be guaranteed.

Changing tables and nursing rooms

Changing tables are available in the lower-level washrooms (Level 100) and in the women’s washroom on the mezzanine.

A nursing room with a changing table is also located on the lower level, next to the lockers. Another is available near the Laurentian Maple Forest ecosystem, beside the washrooms.

In the Biodôme’s dining area, between the gift shop and the food counter, a microwave is available for heating baby food.

Changing rooms and lockers

  • Location: Paid lockers are available on the lower level.
  • Cost: $2 per locker (single-use access)
  • For groups: Storage bins are provided for groups that have booked their visit.

Reserve your group visit by completing our online form.

Service dogs

At the Biodôme, visitors who require a service dog may take part in a visit accompanied by a member of the Espace pour la vie staff, who will escort you through the site. Please note that this is not a guided tour. We recommend requesting this support in advance by calling 514-868-3000.

The animal must be vaccinated and certified; proof will be required.

Service animals are not permitted in the Laurentian Maple Forest or the Tropical Rainforest ecosystems to prevent any contact with the animals living there.
