Planétarium

Families and people with disabilities or specific needs have access to a range of services during their visit to the Planétarium. Explore the services available, from wheelchair loans to changing rooms and lockers, along with other solutions designed to make your visit easier.

Accessibility and adapted services

The Planétarium includes exhibition spaces on both the ground floor and the lower level, as well as two theatres on the ground floor. Each theatre is universally accessible. The lower level can be reached by an elevator located near the museum’s main entrance.

Admission to the Jardin botanique is free for the companion of a visitor with a disability.

Visitor guide

A visit-preparation guide for the Planétarium has been created for autistic visitors in collaboration with Giant Steps. It includes a communication board, a sensory map, and photos to support understanding and help you navigate your visit.

Sensory-friendly moments at the Planétarium

Some representations are not recommended for visitors with epilepsy or certain neurodivergent conditions due to lighting effects and strobe sequences.

That said, the Planétarium offers sensory-friendly visiting times for autistic visitors and those with sensory sensitivities on the last Tuesday and Sunday of each month. Consult the detailed sensory-friendly moments schedule in the Espace pour la vie calendar.

Sensory-friendly experiences can also be booked for groups. For more information, please contact our reception staff by phone, email, or in person.

Pre-visit planning guide and sensory kit

A pre-visit planning guide for the Planétarium, along with a sensory kit, was developed in collaboration with Giant Steps for autistic visitors. The guide includes a communication board, a sensory map, and photos to help make your visit easier.

A sensory kit for autistic visitors is available at the museum’s reception desk. It includes five calming items designed to enhance the visit experience. The kit may also be helpful for anyone experiencing sensory overload.

Wheelchair loans

Visitors may request a wheelchair at the reception desk. As the supply is limited, we cannot guarantee that one will be on hand.

A piece of identification is required for the loan.

Parking and paratransit

  • Outdoor parking: 5 spaces reserved for people with disabilities are located at 3000 Viau Street (P6 parking lot). From there, a short walk is required along a mostly flat pathway, with a brief section of moderate incline.
  • Indoor parking: 18 spaces reserved for people with disabilities (12 on level 1 and 6 on level 2) are available at 3200 Viau Street (P5 parking lot). A paratransit stop is also located there.

The Planétarium has been certified as completely accessible by Kéroul, which assesses the accessibility of tourist and cultural sites across Québec.

Dining areas and gift shop

Espace Végo, the Planétarium’s snack counter, offers sandwiches, salads, sweet treats, and great coffee, all prepared on site.

Comfortable armchairs invite you to enjoy a bite to eat before or after your Planétarium visit.

At the Planétarium shop, you’ll find a wide range of educational products, games, and books for the whole family—covering topics like astronomy, robotics, and space exploration.

Services for families

Stroller loan

To make your family visit easier, strollers are available at the ticket counter in the Planétarium’s Main Hall. As the number of strollers is limited, availability cannot be guaranteed. A piece of identification is required as a deposit.

For safety reasons in the event of an evacuation, strollers are not permitted inside the Planétarium theatres. Infant car seats, however, are allowed at all times.

Changing tables and nursing rooms

Changing tables are available in the museum’s washrooms, except in the washrooms designed for visitors with reduced mobility. A nursing room is located on the lower level of the Planétarium, next to the lockers. An elevator near the main entrance provides access to the lower level.

Changing rooms and lockers

  • Location: Paid lockers are available on the Planétarium’s lower level.
  • Cost: $2 (single-use locker).
  • For groups: Bins are provided for groups that have reserved their visit.

Reserve your group visit by completing our online form.

Service dogs

Visitors accompanied by a service dog may access all areas of the Planétarium, including the theaters. Proof of the animal’s certification and vaccination may be requested.
