June 1: Conjunction – Close approach of Mars (mag: +1.20) southwest of the Moon (39%) early at night in a westerly direction in the constellation Leo.

June 2: First quarter Moon – 11:41 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

June 7: The Moon at its peak (86%) – furthest possible distance from the Earth (406,700 km) at 6:42 a.m. EDT.

June 10: Maximum Arietid meteor shower around 10:00 a.m. EDT. Unfortunately, the late rising of the constellation Aries (towards the end of the night on the 10th) and the presence of a full Moon will prevent us from fully enjoying the shower this year.

June 11: Full Moon – 3:43 a.m. EDT.

June 12: The Moon at aphelion (98%), its greatest distance from the Sun – 148,118,960 km – at 3:13 a.m. EDT.

June 18: Last quarter of the Moon – 3:19 p.m. EDT.

June 18: Conjunction – Close approach: Moon (55%) – Saturn (mag: +1) to the east of the Moon, and Venus (mag: -4.24) to the east of Saturn. Late at night in an easterly direction, just before sunrise.

June 20: Summer solstice (Northern Hemisphere) at 10:42 p.m. EDT.

June 22: Conjunction – Close approach: Moon (13%) – Venus (mag: -4.21) slightly southeast of the Moon. Late at night in an easterly direction, just before sunrise.

June 23: The Moon at perigee (5%) – the closest distance from the Earth (356,500 km) at 12:44 a.m. EDT.

June 25: New Moon – 6:32 a.m. EDT.

June 25: Mercury (mag: +0.06) at its highest altitude in the evening sky (14°) just after sunset.

June 25: The Moon at perihelion (0.1%) – closest distance from the Sun (147,789,840 km) – at 1:50 a.m. EDT.

June 27: Maximum June Bootid meteor shower between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. EDT. We expect to see a few bright meteors.

June 29: Conjunction – Close approach: Mars (mag: +1.45) just above the Moon (24%) early at night towards the west in the constellation Leo.
