Common blueberry

This small shrub is well known for its fruit, the blueberry, a berry colored blue or blackish when ripe. It stands between 15 and 60 cm tall.

The leaves, alternate, entire, oval and pointed, are generally pubescent (covered with fine down, especially on the underside). That hairiness is what distinguishes the common blueberry from a close relative that also produces blueberries, the Vaccinium angustifolium (wild lowbush blueberry), whose leaves are normally glabrous (hairless).

The blooms, in the shape of tubes, are white or pink. They gather in clusters at the ends of branches.
