Each year, Montréal Space for Life – the Biodôme, Biosphère, Insectarium, Jardin botanique and Planétarium – welcomes more than 2 million visitors annually and receives hundreds of film and photo shoot requests.

To ensure the best experience possible for our visitors, prevent damage to our internationally renowned collections and maintain our institutions’ daily operations, Space for Life analyzes, manages and supervises all film shoots on its site and installations.

Commercial and film shoots

Requests for filming for commercial purposes or not directly related to Space for Life activities should be sent using the form below.

A valid rental agreement and supervision are required and commercial filming fees apply.

Rates for commercial and cinematographic filming

  • Under 10 people : $230/hour (minimum 2 hours)
  • 10-30 people : $355/hour (minimum 2 hours)
  • More than 30 people : $605/hour (minimum 2 hours)
  • For each day of set-up and teardown : $1 205/day

Media requests

Filming requests directly related to Space for Life activities or its mission should be sent using the form below.

Given the large number of requests that we receive every week, please do not submit any applications for film shoots that do not meet the criteria below :

  1. Shoots that least affect our visitors, collections and daily operations;
  2. Shoots that showcase the programs, experts, expertise, mission or history of our different institutions;
  3. Shoots for which the time and management and supervision efforts required seem warranted in terms of the desired visibility.

If your proposed film shoot meets these criteria, feel free to contact a member of our team to validate its feasibility in terms of safety, availability and other factors.

Guarantee

The production company agrees to warranty and hold the City of Montreal harmless and to take its part in any claim or any action for damages of any nature whatsoever resulting directly or indirectly from the production company's occupancy of the site, and to defend the City of Montreal and indemnify it for principal, interest and expenses for any claim or judgment against it in this respect.

Moreover, before occupying the site, the production company must take out third-party liability insurance of $2 million for bodily harm and material damage resulting from its occupancy of the site, in which the City is designated as co-assured.

The City of Montreal is not responsible for guarding or overseeing equipment provided by the production company or for any damage resulting from the presence of this equipment on the filming site.

Information
Complete coordinates of the production company, including contact name.
Name of broadcaster, date or season of the first broadcast, and estimated duration of the segment to be filmed on our site.
Clearly describe the shoot, including the title of the series, the movie or advertisement. Specify whether an interview with one of our employees at Montréal Space for Life is required within the context of the shoot.
Indicate the exact location required for the shoot (name of institution, garden, greenhouse or ecosystem).
Shoot date, as well as the time of arrival and departure; make sure to allow for the time required to get to the actual site of the shoot, and for equipment set-up and takedown.
A list of equipment used during the shoot, and the crew members’ names and positions.
