Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School (PCHS) Habitat Garden

Here at our school (my workplace) there is a garden-type area that has been unused for many years and is growing a little wild! We thought that this would be a great place to hang bird feeders and try to attract birds for the students to observe. We also planted some native plants, fruiting bushes and wildflowers with the goal establishing a 'habitat garden' that might attract pollinating insects, small animals and more birds. It is a project-in-the-making and as yet, is not full of birds, but we are hopeful!! We also try to learn about why the numbers of birds are low and what we can do to improve this. We added a dead log and some large stones that we dragged over from a forested area on the school property. We plan to add more plants and plant some milkweed, and eventually, add a water feature!
