Our school's garden was created by the students and the help of the B.A.S.E. Daycare staff. The idea of a pollination garden was created from the link of growing food and the need to have pollinators active in a food producing garden. The school applied for a donation of local native perennial pollination plants from the Canadian Wildlife Foundation. The garden was able to come alive with this donation and after 3 years all the plants have grown into the garden space will and flourish to help attract pollinators.
Students use the garden to observe pollinators and save seeds from plants, especially the two types of Milkweed. The students package the seeds and distribute to other students while also running fun educative games about the monarch butterfly. Other schools have also benefited from the garden by taking transplants from extra plants that have sprouted up.
