Oasis pour les monarques

Témoignage

This is the 2nd year since we've created a garden to help save/protect bees and butterflies.
Our garden consists of cosmos, buddleias, asclepias incarnatas, dianthus, asters, cone flowers, marigolds, sedums, verbenas, veronicas candles (spiked speedwell), lavander, etc. We also have a large section of raspberries, blackberries and a cherry tree.
We always attract many bumble/honey bees but this year was quieter than last year for monarchs visiting our garden (down from 22 to 2). One being on the 10th of September (as seen on picture) and the other on September 17th, when we were home to notice.
It was the year of the painted lady though, with 15 per day on average. Some days having 25-30 individuals spending the whole day in our garden. It was a real painted lady bonanza ! Which was truly amazing, between September 13th and 29th. Besides that, we noticed the plants/flowers took longer to grow than usual and that there was less cabbage whites this year like the monarchs, probably due to the bad summer weather we had this year.
